The Northern Atolls are home to Hanifaru Bay, where you can see the amazing sight of dozens of whale sharks AND manta rays feeding from May to December; it’s the kind of breathtaking underwater image that few places on Earth can promise. Other highlights of the region include its famed biomass – huge volumes of fish, as well as large squadrons of grey reef sharks.

Itinerary & Activities

Day 1 & 2 – Arrival and North Malé Start

Arrive in Malé, board the liveaboard, settle in, and complete the check dive in North Malé Atoll. Begin exploring nearby reefs with relaxed drift dives, getting used to currents, visibility, and boat routine.

Day 3 – North Malé to Baa Atoll

Continue diving vibrant channels and pinnacles as the route heads toward Baa Atoll. Expect manta cleaning stations, soft corals, and steady drift profiles. A night dive is planned if conditions allow, highlighting nocturnal marine life.

Day 4 & 5 – Baa Atoll and Hanifaru Bay

Spend two days diving Baa Atoll reefs and thilas, focusing on manta sightings. Visit Hanifaru Bay to witness manta aggregations while snorkeling. Enjoy island visits, sandbanks, and a possible desert island BBQ depending on weather.

Day 6 – Lhaviyani Atoll Exploration

Dive Lhaviyani’s famous channels and wrecks, known for grey reef sharks, stingrays, and fast drifts. Expect multiple dives with varied topography and strong currents, selected according to recent sightings and diver comfort.

Day 7 – Final Dives and Return to Malé

Complete the last dives in Lhaviyani or North Malé depending on conditions. Return to port for an early-morning checkout the next day, with time for a final island visit or relaxed evening on board before disembarking.

The Maldives live aboard is a modern and comfortable 42-meter vessel with capacity for 26 passengers. It features double and triple cabins with air conditioning and private bathrooms, as well as air-conditioned common areas, a lounge, dining area, bar, and sun deck. The ship also has its own dhoni for diving and a support dinghy.

Throughout the expedition, we’ll be aboard the Maldives live aboard, a vessel specially designed for diving. Its spacious layout, comfortable air-conditioned cabins, and climate-controlled common areas ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

The boat has its own diving dhoni, compressors, Nitrox membranes, and tanks available for everyone. It also offers kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) for those who want to make the most of their time on land.
